The Macon County School System has been closely monitoring the forecast for severe weather expected to move through Central Georgia tomorrow morning.
The primary window of concern is 6:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., which covers most of the school day. While we were fortunate with last week’s system, this forecast carries too much uncertainty to ignore.
Several factors weighed heavily in our decision. Approximately 75% of our students ride the bus, and many live in areas spread widely across the county. Safe transportation is always a top priority. In addition, our current bus radio system presents communication challenges that could limit our ability to coordinate effectively during severe weather conditions. A delayed start would not resolve these concerns.
After careful consideration and in the interest of student and staff safety, the Macon County School System will be closed on Monday, March 16, 2026.
